A Ton of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays present a wealth of pursuits much better than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and using deep breathing to not snapping at relatives. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced over the holidays, and just in case you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
