Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
