Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
