The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their first championship series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

George Springer has now hit 23 total post-season home runs, making him third in history after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment besides him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
